"Six years ago, I was homeless. I was married and had a very successful life. I started doing drugs when I was 32 years old. I have now been clean and off meth for five and a half years. Being homeless, I realized that we need to bring love and light and compassion back to those on the streets. We need to bring hope and bring in connections and resources. That's why I started the Oceanside Homeless Resource (OHR). Through OHR, I wanted to be out here, working on the front lines and show that we are human. Society has a misconception of who the homeless community is and fear the homeless population instead of creating solutions for change. I recognized that in Oceanside, there are no shelters and no day centers. There was nowhere for the homeless community to go and belong. A place to help them get back on their feet the way I was able to. I wanted OHR to be a nonprofit that leads with love and light. A place that truly builds relationships, connections, and solutions for those in need."
